When did people start calling a wreck: "The Big One?" When did a huge crash stopped being called a pileup, and get a proper name? Big wrecks were called pileups, melees, smashups, even holocausts! This is the history behind the name, "The Big One." NASCAR fans and drivers go to Daytona and Talladega, anticipating "The Big One," a proper name describing a multi-car crash.
